Enterprise GIS

Ohio State's Enterprise GIS Initiative is being developed to promote, integrate, standardize, and advance the utilization of GIS for administrative, management, and service-related purposes throughout The Ohio State University.

GIS Maps 2.0 is a desktop and mobile app developed by Enterprise GIS with a number of features, including extractable GIS data, campus bus tracking and garage occupancy data, energy consumption by building, location of student amenities, and more.

CURA

The Center for Urban and Regional Analysis (CURA) serves as a bridge across academia, industry, and the policy sector by providing spatial analysis of economic, social, environmental, and health issues in urban and regional settings in Ohio and beyond. CURA is the hub for urban and regional studies at Ohio State.

CURA-affiliated faculty are actively engaged in research across four core areas: Urban Development & Policy, Public Health, Environment & Society, and GIS & Mapping. Find out more about CURA's projects and services here.

Library Locations and Collections

Gardner Family Map Room

The Gardner Family Map Room is located on the second floor of Thompson Library in Room 205. The Map Room collection includes selected U.S. Geological Survey maps, topographic and thematic maps and atlases for various countries of the world, historic city views, and city street maps. There is also a collection of transportation maps and travel maps.

Geology Library

The Geology Library is located on the first floor of Orton Hall and houses books and journals covering geochemistry, physical geography, geology, geomorphology, geophysics, hydrology, meteorology, mineralogy, physical oceanography, paleontology, paleobotany, paleozoology, petrology, polar studies, pollution, and soils.

More than 200,000 geologic and topographic maps of the U.S. and world are also available in the Geology Library. You can find out more information about these map collections here.

Architecture Library

The Architecture Library is located on the fourth floor of Knowlton Hall and contains approximately 57,000 books, reports, and plans, and 200 journal subscriptions covering the subject areas of architecture, city and regional planning, and landscape architecture.

There is also a special collections room that houses many important local, national, and international maps.

Research Commons at 18th Avenue Library

Research CommonsThe Research Commons is a new University Libraries service point that will be opening on the third floor of the 18th Avenue Library in January 2016.  

The Research Commons is a campus hub for collaborative and interdisciplinary research across all fields, with a special focus on Data Management, Digital Humanities, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Researchers seeking assistance with GIS research design, finding geospatial data, or instructional and technical support for GIS software and online mapping tools can draw on the services offered by the Research Commons.
