Honoring Our Nations: Building Strength Through Resilience

We, The Ohio State University, respectfully acknowledge the territory in which we gather as being the ancestral homelands of the Cherokee, Delaware, Miami, Ojibwe Peoria, Potawatomi, Seneca, Shawnee, and Wyandotte Peoples.  In recognition of the rich histories and continuing legacies of these indigenous nations as well as others who were selectively omitted from the history of the United States and the world, we encourage those within our campus communities to engage with the lived experiences of others (both past and present) in ways that promote cross-cultural learning and active anti-racist behaviors.  Specifically, the University resides on land ceded in the 1795 Treaty of Greeneville and the forced removal of tribal peoples through the Indian Removal Act of 1830.  We want to honor the resiliency of these tribal nations and recognize the historical contexts that has and continues to affect the Indigenous peoples of this land.​
