Task 1: Saving a copy of the web map you’ll need for this activity
While you’re logged in to your ArcGIS Online organizational account, follow the steps below to locate and save a copy of the web map for today’s activity. You won’t need to use this web map until Task 4, but it makes sense to save a copy now.
Click on Save in the top menu and then choose to Save As. Change your title to CensusStoryMapWorkshop_yourname.#. The other required information should auto-populate based on the map you are copying, including the tags and summary. When finished, click Save Map.
Using the dropdown menu in the top left corner of the Map Viewer, choose to go to your Content page. You should see your newly saved copy of the web map listed, which means that it will be available to you later to add to your story map.
On your Content page, click on the title of your web map. This will take you to the item details page where you will find information about the web map, including a summary, description, terms of use, tags, and attribution. When creating your own items in ArcGIS Online in the future, it is a best practice to complete all of the fields on the item details page to make your content easier to share, discover, and reuse.
Now that you have saved a copy of the web map you'll need later in this activity, move on to Task 2.
