Geography

Although there are almost 200 individual countries in the world, it seems that the global media only focuses on a few select areas for much of the time.  Less well know places are discussed briefly or not at all unless some sort of disaster occurs.

On this guide we have chosen countries that:

• Are not often in the news
• Have a much lower volume of library content
• Are places that could hold cultural or historical interest for you.

At the present time, there are 195 countries listed in the United Nations.  

There are several areas in the world that are not listed including Taiwan and some dependencies.
