This course aims to help the students gain basic knowledge in primary sources and methodology for research on pre-modern and modern China. It consists of two parts: 1) various types of primary sources and major collections, including useful reference books; 2) a range of approaches that have enabled historians to use primary sources critically and creatively.
There are two ways to search the records in Chinese/Japanese/Korean:
Chinese - pinyin romanization system, however some older titles still has titles using the Wade-Giles romanization system.
Japanese - Modified Hepburn romanization system
Korean - McCune-Reischauer system
