Data Visualization Instructional Support

Data Visualization at the Research Commons provides instructional support on a variety of topics including informing students of the data and data visualization resources on campus, designing effective visualizations, and how to create charts and analyze data using tools like Tableau, Excel, and R.

List of possible topics (some may require longer or multiple sessions):

  1. Data visualization in general with examples in specific area of study
  2. Introduction to [TOOL] for data visualization (Excel, Tableau, R, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop)
  3. Importance of data visualization
  4. Viz types (bar chart, line graph, pie chart, bubble chart, etc), pros and cons, and when to use each
  5. Programming/coding data visualizations (currently R only, Python, Processing, and D3.js in the future)
