Choose Publication Venues Wisely

How

  • Use the checklist at ThinkCheckSubmit.org to evaluate a particular journal before submitting your article
  • Be aware of your rights as an author when negotiating publication agreements
  • Check journal metrics to compare journals in your field

Why

  • Although there are many reputable open access journals, there are also poor quality, deceptive, and outright fake journals around.  Evaluate carefully!
  • Although journal metrics have many weaknesses and critics, in some disciplines or departments they may still be required.
  • Publisher agreements vary regarding preprints, self-archiving, etc. but you can negotiate.
