Popular Culture

Pop Culture Universe  Popular culture database contains a diverse interdisciplinary resource covering; arts and visual culture, business and advertising, ethnic and group culture, fashion and appearance, film, food and drink, literature, music, politics, recreation and leisure, religion and spirituality, sports, television and radio, and technology and media.

Entertainment Industry Magazine Archive  Show business database contains primary resources covering broadcasting, cinema, film, music, radio, stage, television and theatre.  Periodical titles include: Beat, Billboard, Box Office, Melody Maker, Reggae Beat and African Beat, The Stage, Uncut, and Variety.

Art

Oxford Art Online  Database provides search and browse capabilities that allow users to refine results and choose to view biographies, subject entries, or images. Database includes Grove Art Online The Oxford Companion to Western Art, the Benezit Dictionary of Artists, The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Art Terms, and The Encyclopedia of Aesthetics.

Performing Arts Periodicals Database   Periodical database provides access to articles about dance, drama, theater, stagecraft, musical theater, circus performance, opera, pantomime, puppetry, magic, performance art, film, television and other areas of the entertainment industry.

The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum (BICLM)  The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum houses the world’s largest collection of comic strip tear sheets and clippings. BICLM is home to unique, original art and manuscript materials.  A Guide to Multicultural Resources is a pathfinder to finding materials by African American, Latino American, and Asian American artists.   

Underground and Independent Comics, Comix, and Graphic Novels: Volume I   Volume I covers major works from North America and Europe, beginning with the first underground comix from the 1950s and continuing through to modern sequential artists.  Database contains original works, interviews, commentary, theory, and criticism from magazines, journals, and, books, including “The Seduction of the Innocent” by Dr. Frederick Wertham.    

Music

International Index to Music Periodicals (IIMP)  The IIMP database provides to international music periodicals from 1874 to the present. Subject areas include: music education, performance, ethnomusicology, musical theatre, theory, popular music forms and composition.

Oxford Music Online  Major music reference database providing online access to “Encyclopedia of Popular Music,” “Grove Music Online,” “The Grove Dictionary of American Music,” “The Oxford Companion to Music,” “The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians,” “The New Grove Dictionary of Opera” and “The New Grove Dictionary of Jazz,” and “The Oxford Dictionary of Music.”

Theatre 

Black Drama   Black Drama, Second Edition contains plays with detailed, fielded information on related productions, theaters, and production companies. The database includes selected playbills, production photographs and other ephemera related to the plays. The titles were selected with the editorial advice of James V. Hatch, co-author of “A History of African American Theatre.”

North American Theatre Online   Database includes reference information about authors, plays, theatres, productions, production companies, casts, and links to plays in full-text.
