OhioLINK Cambridge University Press EBA FAQ

Q: What is the OhioLINK Cambridge EBA program?

A: OhioLINK’s Cambridge University Press evidence-based acquisition (EBA) agreement provides access for all OhioLINK members to Cambridge University Press Cambridge Core e-books. The agreement provides unlimited subscription-access to the e-books for five years, starting June 1. In addition, the agreement allows the OhioLINK to purchase access to a subset of these e-books for permanent access. OhioLINK’s Cambridge University Press five-year evidence-based acquisition (EBA) agreement was approved by deans and directors in late 2019, after months of evaluation and analysis.

Q: What e-books are included in this agreement?

A: The agreement provides subscription-based access to all Cambridge University Press e-books published from 2015 forward. Currently, this is approximately 8,500 titles. https://www.ohiolink.edu/content/current_ebook_packages.  That list will grow as new content is published every year. The agreement is in effect until May 30, 2025. With each year, the access to the backfile to 2015 will continue. In addition, each year’s frontlist will be made available once the e-books are published. For example, in 2021, OhioLINK members will have access to Cambridge e-books published from 2015-2021; in 2022, members will have access to e-books published from 2015-2022, etc., through 2025. Cambridge Histories, Cambridge Companions, and multi-volume reference works are not included.

Q: Are these titles available for use as course materials? Is the number of users limited?

A: Yes, the e-books will be available for all faculty and students to use through OhioLINK as course materials. There will be no limits on the number of users who can use them at the same time. All the titles in the list will be available for five years, with some titles purchased for permanent access. Please see the answers below for more details regarding the length of access.

Q: If we design a course using one of these EBA titles, and then it isn’t purchased, would we have to redesign the course?

A: If a particular title is not purchased by the end of the agreement and is still being used in a course at your institution, your institution could purchase the title locally to make it permanently available to your faculty. See the question below for more information on how purchase decisions are made.

Q: Will OhioLINK provide catalog records for each of the titles in the new collection?

A: Yes, OhioLINK will provide catalog records for each of the titles in the collection.

Q: How will these titles be made available to all OhioLINK institutions on June 1?

A: The titles will be available through OhioLINK catalog records, as well as Cambridge University Press’ platform, Cambridge Core. They will be available for the duration of this contract. Any titles purchased will be available in perpetuity through OhioLINK’s catalog, Cambridge University Press’ platform, Cambridge Core, and will be loaded into OhioLINK’s Electronic Book Center.

Q: How long will we have access to these titles?

A: All the titles in the list will be available through subscription access for the full five-year length of our agreement with Cambridge University Press, in effect until May 30, 2025. However, OhioLINK members will have ongoing, permanent access to the titles purchased by the selection team.
