RekionThis historical collection consists of about 50,000 sound recordings of music, speeches, etc. on 78rpm records and metal discs from around 1900 to 1950. Approximately 4,900 of them are provided on the internet, while others are available only on the premises of the NDL and about 300 Rekion partner libraries in Japan and overseas (and OSU Libraries is one of them!)
Managed by the National Diet Library, this collection contains recordings from wide-ranging genres including Japanese traditional music, folk music, rakugo, kabuki, classical music, opera, popular music, and speeches. Those that have expired copyright are freely available via this link. Note: Please be aware it may take some time for the music to stream at remote locations.
