This is a favorite database for a lot of researchers for initial company background information. The company profiles include company financials, closest industry peers, 'Triggers' (news stories about events believed to have a large impact in the company) and links out to relevant industry pages.

Mergent Online is another key resource for company information. AS well as standard information about company financials, SEC filings links, etc. these company profiles contain some background on major executives, ownership information (including insiders and institutional ownership), some very basic supply chain information and sustainability reports, if available. The database also gives the user the ability to build company comparison reports, comparing one's company of interest to others of one's choosing, or a standard list of closest competitors.

PrivCo is the Libraries main resource for private company information, though unfortunately this data is always limited because private companies in the US do not have to publicly disclose very much data. PrivCo also provides access to an investor and venture capital search tools allowing you to filter a search for a list of deals by a wide range of variables.

CB Insights is a venture capital and angel investment database that allows one to search for companies, deals or investors and then filter results lists by industry, company attributes or financial metrics. Company profile pages include major investors and funding rounds, a basic description, relevant news stories, and key people, as relevant.

NetAdvantage is an investment research database, but it is probably the best resource we have for company financial information, comparison to competitors, company business history, and analyst reports (including industry reports as well, which include a section on 'How to analyze a company in this industry').

Morningstar is another investment research database wherein one can screen for a list of stocks, mutual funds or ETFs matching various criteria. Company profiles within this database contain comprehensive financials and especially plentiful key ratios coverage. Analyst content is also a major highlight.

Preqin provides data on alternative investments. Our subscription is focused on private equity and venture capital data and allows you to search for investors, fund, fund managers, companies & deals, performance measures and more. There are also tools available for benchmarking and building charts and league tables. Investor and fund profiles might include overview data, portfolio breakdown, recent deals and more.
