Refine Options for Search Results

To the left of your search results, you have multiple options to sort and refine your search results.

At the top of this area, there is a drop-down menu with several sort options:

  • Relevance
  • Date-Newest
  • Date-Oldest
  • Title
  • Author

 

To select a refine option, click on the type of refine if it is not already expanded and then the term you want to limit by.

The refine options are:

Availability: online, peer reviewed journals, open access, OhioLINK

Resource Type: Different formats, including journal articles, books/chapters, conference papers, newspaper articles, and many others.

Language: Specify 1 or more language

Journal Title: Specify 1 or more specific journal title

Publication Date: Specify a year range

Subject: Specify 1 or more subject area.

Author/Creator: Specify 1 or more authors

OSU Library: Specify 1 or more physical library location

OhioLINK Institution: Specify 1 or more OhioLINK library

Collection: Specify 1 or more digital collections, such as ebook or journal databases

Genre: Specify 1 or more genre. This is most useful for more speciific searches and some disciplines, such as music.

Place:  Specify 1 or more place as the object of focus.

Data Source: If applicable to the search, Research Guides, Digital Collections, or Knowledge Bank

New Records: See recent items

 

Note: Some refine options will allow you to exclude items. If you hover over one that allows this, you can click the checkbox with a line through it to exclude. For example a specific language:
