Accessing online content found via Libraries Search

In Libraries Search, after clicking on the title of an ebook, streaming video, article, or other item available online, look for the View Online section to find access options (there may be mulitple).

Getting physical items (print books, DVDs, CDs, etc.) found via Libraries Search

You can go to the location where an item is or click Request to get it held for you at any OSU library location or sent to your office/dorm.

Accessing content found in library databases

This has not changed. If you are within one of our hundreds of databases, and the full text is not available there, look for this symbol (it may be under a section about access that requires you to click that label).

Clicking on this button checks for online access. If an item is not available online, you will get an option for interlibrary loan.

Note some tools may have a text-only version of Find It!, but it should behave the same way. Some items may have multiple access options (see the right side of the screen for additional options).

Why is it asking me to sign in to get rcomplete results?

You will see these messages in Libraries Search. Signing in with your name.# and password will give you additional options and the ability to request print items.

Course Reserves

 

Use the Advanced Search within Libraries search and select Course Reserves.

You can then search by multiple course information fields.

Linking to an Item

 

When viewing a specific item in Libraries Search, look for the Permalink option. This will provide a link you can provide to others to go directly to this item's record in Libraries Search.

How do I find....?

The following are all based on starting at https://search.library.osu.edu.

In addition to the options below, you can also do an Advanced Search and apply some of these Resource Type options or you can do a simple search and use the refine options to the left when viewing results to as another way to find these items.

 

A Specific Journal

Click on Journal Title at the top of the screen. You may need to click on ... depending on your screen setup.

Alternatively, prior to ssearching, you can choose the Journal Titles option below the search box. journal titles option

 

A Specific Database

Click on Database Title at the top of the screen. You may need to click on ... depending on your screen setup.

Alternatively, prior to ssearching, you can choose the Databases option below the search box. databases option

 

Items by a specific author, a specific title, call number, subject, etc.

Click on Browse By... at the top of the screen. You may need to click on ... depending on your screen setup. You have several options in the dropdown menu to choose from.

 

Books

Prior to ssearching, you can choose the Books option below the search box. 

Note: After searching, you can limit to items available online.

 

Journal Articles

Prior to ssearching, you can choose the Journal Articles option below the search box. 

Alternatively, you can search individual databases, which will have additional functionality and/or subject specificity not found in Libraries Search.

 

Videos

Prior to ssearching, you can choose the Video/Film option below the search box. 

Note: After searching, you can limit to items available online.

 

Streaming music, audiobooks, CDs, etc.

How do I log into my library account?

You can access your library account by starting at the library home page: https://library.osu.edu/. Then selecting the My Account link:

You will log in using your name.# and password.

Reporing Problems

Whether you are on a search screen, looking at search results, or examining a specific item, you'll see this symbol on the lower right hand corner of your screen.
