PatentPak is an incredibly useful tool in SciFinder that allows users to view full text patents, and potentially identify exactly where a Registry Number occurs in the patent.
There are currently over 18 million patents to date with PatentPak links, and more are added each day from 46 patent offices.
PatentPak links are active for 90 days from the date of creation and can be shared with others in your organization, or even outside of your organization.
There are three different PatentPak types available:
PDF: Cleans PDFs to view the patent of interest
PDF+: Clean PDF that contains a table at the very end with RN locations that you can view and use to find the reference to a particular substance
Interactive: Interactive version of the patent that will bring you to the location of the substance in the patent.

The PDF+ will have a table at the end of the patent that assigns a marker number to each RN. Page numbers are given, and you locate the marker number to know where the RN is. See the video below for a quick look:

The Interactive PDF has a column on the left hand side where you can click on an RN and it will jump to its location in the patent. If you are looking for a particular RN, you'll have to use CTRL+F in your browser to find is as there is not a search feature within the PatentPak.
There is also no ability to export the locations found in the PatentPak. See the video below for a quick look:

Some patents aren't eligible for PatentPak. If you need help identifying where a particular RN is located in a patent, reach out to the CAS Customer Center and they'll be able to assist. They can ask the Editorial team to determine where the RN is, and ask if it available to have a PatentPak added!
