Keep Teaching: Virtual Library Instruction Resources

Guidelines for Recording Instruction Statistics

For virtual instruction, you have the option to select synchronous, asynchronous or both.

Recoding Synchronous Presentations

A synchronous presentation can be defined as a session in which you are in the classroom space (which could be a Zoom meeting) at the same time as the learners and have the ability to interact with them in real time. For reporting attendance for synchronous sessions, if the number of students present during the session is available to you, use this. If not, you may use the number of students registered for the session (if using Zoom registration), or the course enrollment as the attendance.

Recording Asynchronous Presentations

An asynchronous presentation can be defined as a recorded online session, tutorial, video or other interactive educational module created in a digital/electronic format and includes web-based presentations such as recorded webinars. Please do not count or report handouts or research guides such as LibGuides as an asynchronous instruction session. For asynchronous instruction, you may use course enrollment as attendance.  Please do not report downloads, views and/or webpage hits as attendance.

Recording Combination Presentations

If you create an asynchronous presentation or resource and also provide a synchronous session for the same course, you can use your own determination as to whether or not to consider them as two separate but related instances or a single instance. If you decide they should be counted as one instance, use the “both” option when selecting the format.

Recording Instruction in LibInsight

To record your instruction, programming, workshop and tour statistics in LibInsight, you will be prompted to log in, and then it should default to the Instruction form. Please use the “Go To:” dropbox in the upper right corner to access the Program, Workshop, Orientation or Tour form.

For questions or further guidance involving scenarios that fall outside of this framework, please contact LIB-Teach@osu.edu.
